Dental Hygiene Program Application Dates and Health Science Application Login
Cypress College’s Dental Hygiene Program provides students with the knowledge, skills and values necessary to qualify for licensure as a Registered Dental Hygienist. This program also prepares students to take the National Board of Dental Hygiene Examiners written examination, the Western Regional Examining Board clinical examination, and the California Law and Ethics examination for licensure as a Registered Dental Hygienist.
The Cypress College Dental Hygiene program is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation, a specialized accrediting body recognized by the United States Department of Education and the Council on Higher Education Accreditation.
In the dental programs, there is potential for exposure to bloodborne and infectious disease by way of saliva and blood. The Dental Assisting and Dental Hygiene programs at Cypress College require students to wear personal protective equipment for safety when working with classmates and patients in various dental procedures. Students in the program receive theory and practice regarding infection control procedures and prevention of exposure to bloodborne and infectious disease.

Health Science Division
The following courses must be completed with a minimum grade of “C” and an over-all GPA of 2.5. Once a passing grade is achieved, courses may not be repeated for a higher grade.
All accepted applicants are required to pass DH 100C Introduction to Dental Hygiene. Failure to pass DH 100C prohibits future applications.
Science Prerequisites: Must be completed within five years at the time of application, and with an overall GPA of 3.0. All sciences must be taken in-person or hybrid (lab must be in-person).
General Education Prerequisites: Beginning January 1, 2026, all general education prerequisites must be completed at the time of application. (See exception in Minimum Standards to Apply.) The following courses must be completed at the time of application with a minimum grade of “C” or better.

A student must attain a minimum of a “C” in all required courses to continue in the program.
The Dental Hygiene Program offers four certificates upon completion of the program.
(1) successfully pass written and clinical Board Examination and Law and Ethics Examination, and (2) have no criminal record, or the board must determine that a past criminal record poses no threat to the public health, safety, or welfare. Finger printing is required and checked through the Department of Justice and/or the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The applicant must report on the Application for Licensure, any convictions, or pleas of nolo contendere, even if the conviction was dismissed. Making a false statement on an application, regarding a past conviction, is cause for denial of a license, regardless of the nature of the crime or how long ago it occurred.

Dental Hygiene Associate in Science Degree
The degree typically takes two years, after being admitted into the program. This timeline does not include general education and program prerequisites.
The program is $46 per unit for California residents, not including books, fees, and supplies. Units vary by course, but the average is three units per course. The unit cost for the associate degree will vary depending upon the number of prerequisites needed. Most students also qualify for some form of financial aid.
Graduates find employment in private dental practice and dental specialties practice.
